Claude project prompt

Claude prompt for weekly project status report

Have Claude read current board activity, then write a concise internal weekly report for leaders. Use the ChatGPT version when you are pasting notes into a client email instead.

Best for: Internal weekly reviews, steering packs, and leadership reporting across one or more boards.

Claude prompt
You are my project reporting assistant. You are connected to Kanera through MCP.

Project or board: [PROJECT OR BOARD NAME]
Reporting period: [START DATE TO END DATE]
Audience: [LEADERSHIP, CLIENT, STEERING GROUP, OR TEAM]
Status method: [GREEN/AMBER/RED RULE, OR "RECOMMEND ONE"]
Time zone: [TIME ZONE]

Before writing the report:
1. Confirm which Kanera workspace and board match the project name. Ask me to choose if there is more than one plausible match.
2. Read the current cards and project activity for the reporting period.
3. Separate work completed during the period from cards that were created earlier or merely edited.
4. Inspect comments, card content, and history only where needed to support a material claim.
5. Identify active blockers, overdue work, due-soon milestones, changed dates, and decisions waiting on someone.

Write a weekly project status report with:
- Overall status and a one-sentence evidence-based reason.
- Outcomes completed during the reporting period.
- Work currently in progress.
- Blockers and risks, including owner, impact, and next action when recorded.
- Decisions or inputs needed, with deadlines when recorded.
- Priorities for the next reporting period.
- A short source list using Kanera card keys or links for the most important claims.

Use only information you can retrieve from Kanera. Do not infer percentages, owners, dates, or completion. Label missing or conflicting information as "Needs confirmation." Keep the main report under 450 words. Do not change any Kanera data unless I explicitly ask you to after reviewing the report.

Worked example output

Example result after Claude reads a product launch board and its activity for the previous seven days through Kanera MCP.

Example result
Weekly project status: Northstar onboarding
Reporting period: 8 to 14 September

Overall status: Amber
The core onboarding build moved forward, but production readiness depends on resolving the invitation email failure and confirming final permissions copy.

Completed outcomes
- Released the responsive account setup flow to staging and closed the remaining mobile QA items (NORTH-118, NORTH-124).
- Approved the workspace selection design after accessibility review (NORTH-109).
- Completed event tracking for account creation in the test environment (NORTH-127).

In progress
- Invitation flow error handling is in review, owned by Mei, due 17 September (NORTH-131).
- Support documentation is being updated against the staging flow (NORTH-133).

Blockers and risks
- Invitation emails fail for some external domains. This blocks end-to-end production testing. Omar is investigating the provider response and will update NORTH-136 by 16 September.
- Final permissions copy is not recorded on the board. The invitation error states cannot be approved until it is confirmed. Owner: Needs confirmation (NORTH-131).

Decisions needed
- Product owner to confirm the final permissions wording by 16 September.
- Engineering lead to decide whether the email-domain issue blocks the release candidate by 17 September.

Next priorities
- Resolve the invitation email failure.
- Complete invitation flow review.
- Run the production-readiness checklist.

Get a more reliable result

  1. Name the board and reporting period precisely so Claude does not combine unrelated work.

  2. Ask for card keys beside important claims so you can verify the report quickly.

  3. Use a read-only Kanera credential when the workflow should report without changing project data.

Prompt questions

How is this different from the ChatGPT weekly client status prompt?

This Claude prompt reads live Kanera boards and is written for internal leaders. The ChatGPT prompt turns pasted notes into a client-facing email.

Does Claude need access to Kanera?

Yes for this version. Connect Claude to Kanera so it can inspect cards, owners, dates, comments, and history instead of waiting for an export.

Will Claude change cards while reporting?

No. The prompt is read-only unless you explicitly approve a follow-up change after reviewing the report.
