Global Work
Global Work brings cards together across every organization, workspace, standalone board, and guest board you can access. It has two lenses:
| Lens | Main question |
|---|---|
| My Cards | What needs my attention across all of my boards? |
| Team Cards | What is the team working on, and what should each person do next? |
The cards do not move into a separate Global Work database. Every result remains connected to its source board, list, labels, custom fields, assignees, comments, and activity.
Global scope and permissions
Global Work is not limited to one workspace. The Boards control can include:
- Every accessible board.
- One organization.
- One workspace.
- One board.
- Standalone boards.
- Boards where you are an external guest.
Results always follow the viewer's real access:
- You only see boards and cards you can access.
- Observer access stays read-only.
- Editor actions are available only on boards where you can edit.
- An assigned-items-only board grant continues to limit the visible cards on that board.
- A shared saved view never grants access to its owner's boards.
Controls shared by the two lenses
Global Work can narrow results by source board, search text, labels, workflow lists, due dates, completion, archived state, and supported custom fields. Team Cards can also filter by assignee and unassigned status.
Depending on the display, you can also:
- Group by organization, workspace, board, assignee, list, due date, completion, or no grouping.
- Sort by due date, title, created date, updated date, or longest in progress.
- Include completed cards from a chosen date range.
- Search card titles or card keys.
- Save the current setup as a named view.
Each Global Work lens remembers its own display and query setup.
Trace dependencies across your work
Choose Dependencies in My Cards or Team Cards to map the blocking chains connected to the lens's loaded cards. The view follows visible prerequisites and downstream work across boards, while preserving your search and filter context. It can show other accessible cards needed to explain the chain even when those cards are not assigned to the selected person.
Switch between Map, Timeline, and Steps; inspect risks and bottlenecks; or edit links in Map and Timeline. The map keeps hidden blockers anonymous and warns when its 400-card limit cuts a chain short. See Dependencies View.
Plan dates across boards
Choose Timeline in My Cards or Team Cards to see start-to-finish bars grouped by source board. Switch to list, assignee, label, or no grouping; zoom, pan, hide completed work, and show dependency wires or the working-day critical path. You can reschedule a card wherever you can edit its board. On touch devices, open the card to change dates.
Chains follow accessible work within each workspace. See Timeline and Start Dates for conflicts, slack, permissions, and the difference from Dependencies' due-week Timeline.
Find blocked work across boards
Choose Filter -> Blocked in My Cards or Team Cards to show work waiting on active prerequisites. Combine it with the available board, member, label, and other filters to focus a handoff review. Open a card's Dependencies to see its blockers, owners, and board context. A blocker you cannot access contributes only to a hidden-blocker count.
The blocked state refreshes live when prerequisites clear or reopen, including on boards you are not viewing. See Card Relationships and Blocking.
Saved views
Choose Save view to preserve a useful Global Work setup. A saved view can include:
- The active lens.
- Board scope.
- Filters.
- Display mode.
- Grouping and sorting.
- Table columns, order, widths, aggregates, breakdown, and collapsed groups.
- Collapsed sections in the Board display.
Saved views can be private, visible to everyone in the organization, or shared with selected colleagues. Only the owner can update or delete a shared view. Anyone opening it still sees only the boards they can access.
My Cards
My Cards shows cards assigned to you across accessible boards. It is the detailed execution companion to Home: Home focuses on this week and recent progress, while My Cards lets you work with the full result set.
My Cards supports:
| Display | Use |
|---|---|
| Board | Merge assigned cards into workflow lanes and move or prioritize work when permissions allow. |
| Table | Edit, group, sort, calculate, and export assigned cards. |
| Timeline | Plan start-to-finish dates, dependencies, slack, and critical work across boards. |
| Calendar | Review assigned cards with due dates and drag them to reschedule. |
| Work done | Switch between a dated activity List and a Report with period summaries, daily flow, current workload, and cards needing attention. |
You can create a card directly from My Cards. Choose the destination board, and Kanera assigns the new card to you.
Set your Up next order
Open Up next beside Filter to dock your ranked queue beside the current My Cards display.
Add an assigned card with Add card, use the quick Add to Up next action on an eligible card, or drag a card tile into the queue. Drag rows to reorder them, use the up and down controls for a precise move, or drag a row out to remove it. Removing a row changes only the queue, not the card.
Queue positions stay consistent across Kanera:
- Home shows the first items in the same order.
- Board cards show their Up next rank.
- Table can show the Up next column and filter to queued cards.
- The dock keeps each card's source board, list, and due date visible.
Use Filter -> In Up next when you want the main My Cards result to show only cards already in your personal queue.
Only active cards assigned to you can enter your queue. Completing, archiving, or unassigning a card removes it from the active order.
See Up next for the personal drawer, every way to add or reorder cards, and queue behavior outside My Cards.
Choose Report for a summary of the period alongside current workload, attention categories, and cross-board breakdowns. It follows the My Cards or Team Cards scope, including a selected teammate. See Work Done report.
Assigned checklist items
My Cards also shows incomplete checklist items assigned to you. They appear in a separate section with:
- The checklist item text.
- Parent card.
- Source board and list.
- Due date and overdue state.
- A link back to the parent card.
Checklist items stay separate from card rows because they have different actions and do not belong in Calendar, Work Done, completed-card history, or archived-card mode.
Team Cards
Team Cards can show the whole visible team or focus on one teammate. Selecting View cards on someone's profile card opens Team Cards already focused on them.
Use the teammate control to:
- Review everyone together.
- Select one person.
- Search for a teammate across the current board scope.
- Create a card assigned to the selected person.
- Show that person's assigned checklist items.
Board, Table, Calendar, and Work Done remain available. Team Cards also adds a whole-team display, Team overview, where you can also curate each teammate's Up next. The aggregate team view is useful for ownership and cross-board coordination. Selecting one teammate adds person-specific actions, their assigned checklist items, and an Up next control. Open it to place that person's ranked queue beside their current work display.
Team overview
Choose Overview in Team Cards for one panel per teammate that answers "what is each person busy with, and what is next for them?" without opening each person's board in turn.
Each panel shows, in order:
| Section | What it shows |
|---|---|
| In progress | Their open cards in In progress lists, longest-running first, each with its time in progress. A card nobody has touched for a week still shows, with a week on its clock. |
| Recently active | Other open cards assigned to them that they moved, created, or ticked checklist items on in the last 7 days. Changes made by someone else, such as a manager re-triaging the card or an AI agent, do not count. |
| Up next | The head of their Up next queue with its true ranks. Filters never renumber it; search only narrows it by title. It appears only when you are allowed to read that person's queue. |
| Assigned | Their other open cards, soonest due first. |
| Recently done | Cards they completed in the last 7 days, whoever the card was assigned to. |
Every row names the card's board and list, and carries its time-in-progress and due-date chips. Select a row to open the card.
The Open, In progress, Overdue, and Done 7d counts at the top of a panel are toggles. Select one to replace the summary with that whole set of cards, and select it again or choose Back to summary to return. The In progress count turns amber when any card has passed its workspace's time-in-progress alert. Select the arrow beside a name to open that person's cards on the Board display, focused on them.
Fold a section such as Assigned or Recently done by selecting its heading. The fold applies to every panel at once, so you can compare one kind of work across the team, and it stays folded the next time you open the overview on that device. Select a teammate's avatar to open their profile card.
The overview also:
- Shows a No assignee panel first when cards in In progress lists have no assignee, so unowned work cannot hide between panels.
- Folds teammates with no open cards and no recent activity into a single row. Expand it to pick a name.
- Follows the board scope, search, and filters for its card sections, and updates live as cards move.
- Shows at most three panels per row, and a single column on phones.
Counts come from the loaded cards. While Kanera is still loading every match, or when a very large scope reaches the load limit, a note above the panels says so. The overview needs a live connection; when you are offline, Team Cards falls back to a saved Table and says the overview will return after reconnecting.
Focus on one teammate and their Up next
A row of people sits above the overview panels. Select a teammate there, select their name on their panel, or choose Edit on their Up next section to show only their panel, with their ranked queue docked beside it. Select Everyone, the teammate again, or their name again to bring the whole team back.
The dock is where you sequence someone's work:
- Their queue sits at the top. Drag rows or use the up and down controls to reorder, and drag a row out or choose Remove from Up next to remove it without changing the card.
- Not queued lists their open assigned cards that are not in the queue yet, grouped by board with the soonest due first. Select + to add a card to the end, or drag it up into the queue where it should go. The list ignores the overview's search and filters, as the queue does.
- Runs of cards you cannot see collapse into one locked row, such as "3 cards you don't have access to", and keep their ranks so everyone quotes the same numbers.
Close the dock with its × to keep just their panel in view; Edit opens it again. On a phone, the dock opens as a sheet over their panel.
You can always read and curate your own queue when you can see the card. Reading another person's queue requires effective admin authority in a workspace you share. Changing their order also requires admin authority in the card's workspace.
Completed and archived cards
Recently completed cards remain in Global Work according to the source workspace or standalone board's completed-card visibility setting.
Use Filter -> Completed to include cards from an older completion-date range. Those cards can participate in the current Board, Table, or Calendar display. In Table, they can also be grouped, aggregated, and exported with active work.
Archived mode loads archived cards instead of mixing them with active work. Archived cards remain read-only until they are unarchived and follow the archived-card retention policy.
See Completed Cards and Archived Cards.
Practical workflows
For individual contributors:
- Start on Home with the first items in your Up next order.
- Open My Cards to add, remove, or reorder the full queue.
- Use Table to compare the queue with due dates, fields, and source boards.
- Use Calendar for deadline planning.
- Use Work Done for an update on recent progress.
For team leads:
- Open Team Cards for ownership and detailed execution.
- Use Team overview to see what each person has in progress, what they last worked on, and what is overdue.
- Select one teammate in the overview to see just their work with their Up next docked, then queue their next cards from Not queued.
- Use Table when status, board, assignees, or dates need to be compared.
- Open Work Done in Team Cards and choose Report to review delivery, current workload, and work needing attention.
